The first time I turned my camera around on myself was a foreign feeling and I had no idea what I was doing.
Especially during this distressing time, and being completely isolated, self-portraiture has given me a sense of freedom and control. Turning to creativity and art has provided me with both an escape and a feeling of being grounded.
It has also taught me to just pick up my camera and just be creative, to come with an open mind and be willing to mess up… a lot.
Self-portraiture is an opportunity to tell a story as well as write a new one. My camera is a tool that reveals my soul as well as anyone else’s that sits in front of it. It’s also a great opportunity to leave my judgement of myself at the door.
The journey of self-expression is rehabilitating and I intend to explore more of it as I go along and grow in this journey.
